Real Madrid are not a selling club, but even they need to offload stars from time to time.
Not because they necessarily need the funds - although that might hold true at many points - but because it is just that some players are just not progressing enough for the club to keep around.
One of the biggest talking points of the summer transfer window was the future of Eduardo Camavinga, who unfortunately falls in the above-mentioned category.

Everyone knows the massive amount of potential he has as a football player, but year by year, he keeps stagnating and his mistakes keep becoming more and more baffling, which is just not a great sign. Real Madrid need a lot more from Camavinga than what he is giving back, which was a reason why the club wanted to let go of him this summer.
They ended up not doing that - Camavinga stayed at Real Madrid because he wanted to, but not because the club actually thinks he is still the player with the same ceiling that he had when he first came onto the scene.
In the friendlies that Real Madrid have had, Camavinga has played every single game, and even in those games, he has not looked impressive. The last game was better, but Camavinga kept making silly decisions in the first few friendlies of the season, which is why everyone keeps talking about his future.
Fans wanted Real Madrid to sell Camavinga and sign Rodri and make a huge upgrade in that position, but it never materialised, and the Frenchman never ended up wanting to leave the club.
Now, the thing is, if you're not even going to impress the coach in the friendlies, you are going to have a hard time getting into Mourinho's good books later on in the season.
It was obvious that Mourinho deemed Camavinga surplus to requirements, according to reports in Spain, and wanted the club to sign a midfielder to replace him. Now that has not happened, which gave Camavinga a chance to prove Mourinho wrong.
However, in these friendlies, he has still looked like a shadow of himself. Camavinga showed more upside and intent in his first two years at the club as a teenager than he has in the last two years. It is simply bizarre to see what is happening with a player once touted as one of the best young midfielders in the world.
Hopefully, Camavinga is able to finally turn his fortunes around, but it just does not seem all that likely.
