Vinicius Junior has interestingly revealed he holds a long-term friendship with a Liverpool star on Real Madrid's radar. Talk is growing over Los Blancos launching a move for one of the Premier League's in-form talents.
The Brazilian winger is popular in the Bernabeu locker room and holds close bonds with many of his teammates. He has been with the club since 2018 and at the age of 25 has already won ever major trophy as a Los Merengues player.
Vinicius is likely to be joined in the Spanish capital by a new midfielder this summer. He has suggested he'd be reunited with Dominik Szoboszlai if the club were to sign Liverpool's talisman.
Real Madrid star Vinicius on his friendship with Liverpool star
Madrid are reportedly interested in Szoboszlai and are weighing up making an offer for the Hungarian. They are considering using Eduardo Camavinga in a swap deal to bring the 25-year-old to the Bernabeu.
Vinicius has added fuel to the flames by highlighting his relationship with the in-form playmaker. He said (via Madrid Zone):
"Do I have friends in football outside Real Madrid? I talk to Dominik Szoboszlai a lot, I've known him since we were younger."
It's an interesting comment to make given the current speculation over Madrid making a move for Szoboszlai. The fact he claims that he talks to the Liverpool star 'a lot' suggests they are in regular communication.
That could play a role in any transfer saga that occurs over the Hungary captain this summer. His national team manager, Marco Rossi, even revealed this week that his skipper had dreamt of playing for Los Blancos:
"Szoboszlai always had one single dream in his life: to play for Real Madrid. I've known him since he was a little boy who just started playing, and his dream was always Real Madrid."
The Hungarian has been at Anfield since 2023 and has grown into one of Europe's most highly-regarded midfielders. He can also play at right-back and his all-round game would be a massive benefit for Los Blancos.
Why Szoboszlai joining Madrid is a hot topic of conversation
The reason there is talk over a possible Szoboszlai transfer is due to his contract situation. His current deal expires in 2028 and he's in negotiations with Liverpool over an extension.
The former RB Leipzig man wants to be handed a new deal which represents his status in Arne Slot's team. He's been on fire this season, posting 10 goals and seven assists in 35 games across competitions.
Mohamed Salah called his Reds teammate one of the 'best players in the world' on current form. He's the reason the Merseysiders are in a race for Champions League qualification given important goals including a winner in a 1-0 win over Arsenal.
