Guler has had a somewhat up-and-down time at Real Madrid since his arrival in 2023, but with a new manager at the helm, he is slated for a fresh start under Xabi Alonso. That being said, Guler could see himself filling a new role in the team which would be a perfect fit for the star.
Xabi Alonso's bold plan to get the best out of Arda Guler this season
As reported by AS, Xabi Alonso plans to use Arda Guler in more of a midfield role this season instead of on the right wing, which would allow him to be more creative from a central role which is something Real Madrid lacked last season.
Guler made 37 appearances in all competitions last season, 25 at right wing and 12 as an attacking midfielder. He struggled to get regular minutes as a starter last season which hurt his development at either position. With the new Alonso regime in full swing, they will do all they can to get the best out of the young star.
With the departure of Luka Modric, Real Madrid are left without a deeper-lying, playmaking midfielder and that is where Guler could finally find his footing as a regular starter. He has shown glimpses of his creative genius when he has been given the opportunity, and much as Xabi Alonso looked to Florian Wirtz to be the creative engine at Bayer Leverkusen, he could look to Arda Guler to be his mastermind in the midfield.
