It won't take long for Trent Alexander-Arnold to take Real Madrid fans right back

If you pardon the pun, that is.

Real Madrid bravely attempted the signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold last season. It was a long process, and it could have easily blown up in Los Blancos' faces, considering how emotionally tied to Liverpool the defender was.

Eventually, after much deliberation between all parties, Trent signed for Real Madrid on a pre-contract agreement, and he's already started out.

Trent's start to Real Madrid life has been slow, admittedly. He hasn't quite had the grasp on the first team that he would've liked, albeit starting two games out of three.

Look, Trent knew before he started out at Real Madrid that starting lineup places were reserved for the best of the best. He knows he can make it on a more consistent basis, he just needs patience, resilience and a stroke of good luck.

Trent Alexander-Arnold will remind Real Madrid fans of Lucas Vázquez

As Real Madrid fans start to notice more and more about Trent Alexander-Arnold, flashes of a player gone by will start to appear. He is a player in a similar mould to Lucas Vázquez.

In fact, FBRef has listed Real Madrid legend Lucas Vázquez as the player second most similar to Trent Alexander-Arnold. Their main comparisons, of course, are their offensive acumen, since they're both more than comfortable in the final third.

That said, Vázquez actually began life at Madrid as a winger. Some would even argue this was his strongest position, but he never once complained about filling in at right-back. He spent a good few years in his accommodated position, after all.

Vázquez's last season in a Real Madrid jersey is one that fans will forget in a hurry, but let's face it, every player was bad last season. That aside, and for his character alone, he is more than worthy of club legend status.

Trent hopes to be a better player than Vázquez was, not that Vázquez ever stood out as a bad player. If he can top his ability, while matching his spirit and never-say-never attitude, then Trent will cement his place in the hearts of the Bernabéu.
