Xabi Alonso travels to the Metropolitano for his first Madrid derby as Real Madrid coach. He's played the derby a fair few times in his playing days, but managing one will be a whole new experience.

Real Madrid has started the season well, perfectly in fact. Therefore, there is every reason to believe that Real can win. As always, though, there is scepticism in the air about any derby day. Anything can happen, particularly when these two sides meet.

That said, the news has been nothing but positive for Xabi Alonso leading up to the derby. He can call upon Jude Bellingham and Eduardo Camavinga. which he likely will.

Speaking ahead of the Madrid derby, Xabi Alonso was asked about Jude Bellingham's best position. He did say that he operates best as an attacking midfielder, but also hailed his versatility. In fact, he expressed a "need" for Bellingham's versatility and adaptability.

In his own words, Alonso said: “He’s an attacking midfielder. He can participate in the build-up and the finish. He has that ability to cover a lot of ground. We have to get the most out of him so that he can make a difference. I need his flexibility and versatility. Some players are more static, and Jude is not one of them.”

Jude Bellingham has shown plenty of versatility in the past, even before his Real Madrid days. For Birmingham City, Borussia Dortmund and the England international team, Bellingham is/was a completely different player to how he is in Royal White.

This is the best part of Jude Bellingham's game, how adaptable he is. When there's an injury or suspension, he's often the go-to guy to fix that area of the pitch.

This could be why Franco Mastantuono recently hailed Bellingham as being the most authoritative player he's ever seen. Big players step up when times are tough in the squad, not back away.

Against Atlético Madrid, Jude Bellingham will be a focal point for Real Madrid, like he often is. Expect play to run through him, and don't be surprised if he gets himself on the score sheet.

After coming off the bench in the last two games, this could be Bellingham's first Liga start under Xabi Alonso. Time will tell how he uses him, but Alonso has certainly teased fans with this position claim.
