Real Madrid fans love winning, but they also realise that their players get criticised more than any others in the world.

It is not even due to a poor performance many times. It could also just be when they don't have the best of games, or even when they fail to do what the critic thought they would do, despite having a good performance overall.

Real Madrid beat Mallorca 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday, and after the match, there was a focus on Kylian Mbappe and his goalless performance, despite scoring two narrowly offside ones.

Xabi Alonso is relaxed about Kylian Mbappe, and you should be, too

Xabi Alonso was asked about the player's no-show in terms of goals, to which he gave an answer fans will love.

He said: “The fact that he didn't score does not worry me at all.

"He had several chances, Kylian's attitude was very good. He was just a few millimeters out of position, and he lacked a bit of accuracy with that final cut or shot.

"I'm sure he'll get there again. The offside thing can be addressed, but he's always a threat to the opponent.

"These are things that can be improved. I'm not too worried; he's going to score a lot of goals.”

Allow me to pump the brakes, just a little bit. We are talking about a player who had scored the majority of Real Madrid's goals this season before this match.

This season has barely started? Well, he scored most of his side's goals in the latter part of last season, too, especially in La Liga.

Mbappe is definitely fit and firing on all cylinders, so there is no reason for people to suddenly worry about his goalscoring.

Alonso certainly is not worried. He knows there is a huge difference between the Mbappe this season and the one from last season, and it won't just show in goals. Real Madrid fans will see it in his attitude, his pressing and so many other things that make the Frenchman a great player.

One goalless performance certainly is not going to change any of that. The player deserves some slack after the kind of goalscoring exploits he has shown in the last few weeks.

Mbappe is still very much a brilliant player, but that was never going to be decided on one good or bad performance anyway.
