Real Madrid: Don’t worry about Cristiano Ronaldo’s form
By Ben Sundock
After missing the first few matches of the La Liga season due to suspension, Cristiano Ronaldo has yet to find his form in front of goal. Despite just 1 goal in 5 matches in the league, there is no need to worry about CR7’s form. Here’s why.
Don’t hit that panic button on Ronaldo quite yet. The Real Madrid star has been off to a slow start, in his terms, but it doesn’t mean he has been playing horribly.
In 8 competitive matches since scoring one of the best goals of his career at FC Barcelona in the Spanish Super Copa, “The Dark Invader” has struggled to find the back of the net in league play, scoring the game-winner at Getafe just over a week ago.
While his one goal and one assist in five league matches is a monumental dropoff from his usual output, there is no need to worry about Cristiano.
Why you may ask? Just look at his performances in the Champions League thus far and his anger when he misses a chance.
Ronaldo has scored 5 goals in 3 UCL matches, knocking a pair of braces against APOEL and Borussia Dortmund while leading his team to big wins in both matches.
In those three matches, he has received the highest average rating of any player on the team, has a passing percentage than in the league, and is averaging more shots on goal in UCL play than in La Liga play.
It is understandable why so many fans are frustrated or worried about CR7’s output early on in this season. Last year, it was the Portuguese forward who helped propel Los Blancos to the league title and the Champions League title with clutch goals and world-class performances, meaning, fans hold Cristiano to a whole new level of accountability as compared to other players in the squad.
Watching yesterday’s match against Eibar, it was clear that Ronaldo was overthinking every shot and pass. On five shots, the forward didn’t come close to scoring.

Most notable was his complete shank on a free kick where he booted the ball halfway up the lower bowl behind the net.
While his chances on goal have been less than impressive, it is a good sign that he is still trying to put the ball on net and looking to score. If the great Cristiano Ronaldo was to play timid, that would cause me to worry.
With the coming schedule getting a bit easier than the first 9 matches, Ronaldo should return to his goal scoring form.
Cristiano is a guy who needs to score goals and will never be satisfied until he does. The shots will continue, the intensity is still there, and the need for a go-to goalscorer this year on this team is more noticeable than ever. Ronaldo has been that guy his entire career and he is sure to continue to be that same guy as long as he is still playing in Madrid.
Don’t panic Madridistas, the CR7 we all know and love will return to form soon. I am sure of it.
