As the countdown to the transfer window’s opening continues, fans around the world clamour for Real Madrid to bring in superstars to help wash the pains of 2018/19 away.

Despite being linked to world-class stars such as Eden Hazard, Paul Pogba and Christian Eriksen as well as a future star in Luka Jovic, there is a key element that is amiss in the Bernabeu that left with Cristiano Ronaldo that those names do not quite bring to the fore.

Whilst Eden Hazard is one of the best players in the world when it comes to going on mazy runs through defences and creating or scoring and the likes of Paul Pogba and Christian Eriksen also bring fantastic qualities in their own right – they do not quite instil that raw presence that puts fear into hearts of defenders and panic in the opposition manager.

Now his current team-mate, Juventus’ Giorgio Chiellini said: “When you have Ronaldo in your line-up, you’re already 1-0 up.” This is something we have seen in Madrid numerous times over, Ronaldo scoring vital goals in situations that few, if anyone else would ever do, we saw it as he dismantled Atletico Madrid’s UCL hopes by scoring an emphatic hat-trick. Despite the fantastic qualities of those Madrid have been linked too, do any of them possess that ability in those moments to turn a game on its head with raw wrecking ball like momentum?

Whilst there is absolutely zero doubt that the likes of Hazard, Jovic, Pogba etc. would bring some fantastic quality to a team in need of it, they don’t bring the raw shock that has left the Bernabeu so lifeless this season. There is almost already a sense of knowing what they will bring, they bring expected results.

However, players like Vinicius already bring a similar edge that Hazard brings, albeit in less polished fashion. Benzema scored 30 goals this season, Jovic also brings goals – it all seems to be supplementary to the already present base. With Barcelona continuing to hoover up leagues in the well-oiled consistent fashion they do in the top flight, they have the supplementary players to compliment the electrifying brilliance of Leo Messi. Real Madrid lacks that electrifying brilliant player.

The player that can shock the Bernabeu, it’s crowds and the dressing into life? Kylian Mbappé. The brilliant Frenchman has dazzled audiences since his emergence from Monaco, with 50 goal contributions this season, Real need his brilliance, his raw ability, his pace, his flash – they need his energy. A signing like Mbappé will shock the entire core of the side and reignite a side in slumber.

dark. Next. Was Bale worth his fee?

The 20-year-old has already rocked some of the biggest stages, his strong showings in the Champions League, his performances at the World Cup. Mbappé would be the perfect ingredient for Real Madrid to kickstart a new era and regain their dominance in Spain as well as regain their stronghold on the European stage.
