LB Ferland Mendy

Ferland Mendy tweaked his hamstring after about an hour of play, but he finished off the game and even started the final goal with a lovely bit of skill before passing it off to Gareth Bale. He should get credit for creating the first goal, too, as he sent in a great ball.

Once again, Mendy worked hard and did everything right defensively. His positioning and intelligence in the attack, especially on counters, deserves praise.

Rating: 7.5 out of 10

CB Eder Militao

A quality performance from Eder Militao, who showed off his underrating passing ability with a couple of teasing long balls. Militao had a few nice blocks and last-ditch defensive recoveries, showing why he is one of the best young defenders in Europe right now. This was another quality performance from the rising star.

Rating: 7.5 out of 10

CB Raphael Varane

Defensively, Eder Militao was the better of the two center backs, but Raphael Varane shook off a few shaky moments in the first half to produce another above-average display in the back four. And when he did make mistakes, Varane showed the ability to recover from them, like usual.

Varane could have gotten credit for the first goal, but he definitely got full credit for nodding home Toni Kroos’ brilliant free kick for Real Madrid’s second. He also created a dangerous opportunity for Karim Benzema on an indirect free kick of his own, delivering a perfect long ball to the striker.

Rating: 8.0 out of 10

RB Dani Carvajal

Worked as hard as ever and was active in the attack, even if he didn’t quite have the final ball in this game. Defensively, Dani Carvajal made more of an impact, reading the game well as part of the clean sheet effort.
