Real Madrid: The 3 ideal summer 2020 signings for Zinedine Zidane
CM Eduardo Camavinga
A defensive midfielder or box-to-box midfielder, Eduardo Camavinga could fill either role for Real Madrid in 2020-2021 and beyond. Camavinga’s availability is in doubt, because Rennes may have agreed to a handshake deal with the teenager stating that he’d have to stay in 2020-2021 if the team qualified for the Champions League. They finished third in Ligue 1.
That situation still needs to be sorted out, but it’s clear that Camavinga is a special prospect. He can make an impact on the attacking end, but he’s most prolific as a defender. Camavinga first burst onto the scene against PSG in 2019-2020 and only improved from there, finishing among Europe’s leaders in tackles per game.
The hard-working defensive midfielder could be a much-needed backup player for Casemiro at the position and would eventually be his heir. Casemiro already has box-to-box tendencies, and while there are clear stylistic differences between the players, Camavinga already looks like the best possible replacement. He is on the Haaland and Mbappe level as a prospect.
Zinedine Zidane, as with Paul Pogba, also appears to be high on Camavinga, viewing him as a priority target for Real. Given his youth, cost, and sensational 2019-2020, the Rennes star could end up being Los Blancos’ most desired target in the summer 2020 transfer window.
