Real Madrid: 3 advantages to watch against Getafe
The magic of Karim Benzema
There have been so many games this season where Karim Benzema provided the lone goal to either rescue a point or send Madridistas home happy with all three. Last Sunday’s 1-0 escape from the RCDE Stadium was a classic example of Benzema rescuing the team again with his sheer brilliance.
Real Madrid were struggling against Espanyol, and Wu Lei was honestly looking like the most dangerous player on either team. It was not a vintage performance from Real to that point, but Benzema, whose form since La Liga’s return has been stellar again, provided a legendary moment with a backheel, nutmeg assist from out of nowhere to set up Casemiro just before the half.
The goal proved to be decisive, and Benzema’s ingenious assist earned him high praise from Guti. It’s clearly the best move since the restart in La Liga, but Benzema also had another outstanding moment a couple of weeks ago with his second goal against Valencia to make it 3-0.
In Benzema, Real Madrid have a striker who can not only create for others and score more than 20 goals in a season on his own, but they also have a player who can create and score clutch goals from absolutely nothing. It’s so easy to overlook his technical quality, dribbling skills, and brilliance as a footballer, but Benzema’s mental sharpness and creativity are a key edge against gritty and tactical opponents like Getafe.
