Real Madrid RW Lucas Vazquez

Lucas Vazquez is a favorite of Zinedine Zidane’s, because he’s the kind of player every manager wants to have in the squad. He goes about his business, never causes problems, and is willing to do whatever it takes to help his team win. Yes, Vazquez has his physical and technical limitations, but he’d still be a starting-caliber player at almost every other club in La Liga.

The problem is that Real Madrid must decide if Vazquez is worth keeping. He could be sold for a decent amount of money, and Real could save on wages by selling him. Furthermore, he’s not a key player in the squad despite his positive attributes, and I’ve seen well-thought-out arguments about how he’s standing in the way of younger wide forwards in 2020.

It all comes down to what Zidane wants and what offers are out there for Vazquez. There would surely be teams, including in the Premier League and Serie A, with the money and interest to give Real Madrid a competitive offer for the player.

But if the money isn’t sufficient, Zidane may not feel it’s worth it to part ways with a player who can start at right winger or play right back in a pinch. Utility players like Vazquez can be an asset in a grueling season.
