2. The finances

Marcelo’s contract is set to expire by the end of the 2021/22 season. As such, to get anything back, Real Madrid must sell him this year. According to Transfermarkt, Marcelo is valued at 10 million euros. At the end of the day getting anything back would be handier than a free transfer.

Moreover, Real Madrid is looking to make the summer transfer window eventful. They are keen on purchasing a forward and might look to refresh the midfield. Therefore, they will need to clear the hefty wage bills to compensate for the newer players coming in.

The club has already suffered financially due to the pandemic hence it is logical to cut costs. Marcelo’s wages amount to 266,000 euros per week, and saving that for a newer investment, by all means, is a sound move.

Marcelo is reaching the end days of his career, but that hasn’t limited the club’s interest. His leadership qualities and experience can still make him a decent transfer target. And Juventus may be willing to make a bid to reunite Marcelo with Cristiano Ronaldo. With Real’s current financial situation in mind, I think Madridistas should prepare themselves for a painful goodbye to their beloved left-back this summer.
