James Rodriguez to Real Madrid

First up on the list is one of Real Madrid’s former players and one of Carlo Ancelotti’s favourite players, James Rodriguez. The Colombian was signed by Real Madrid in the summer of 2014 for 75 million euros when Don Carlo was at the helm. The two developed a great relationship from then and that relationship continued at Bayern Munich and Everton, who got the playmaker for free last summer.

He had a great debut season with the Toffies, registering 6 goals and 9 assists to his name in all competitions, despite having a season disturbed with regular injuries. He loved life under Ancelotti in the Merseyside, but after Ancelotti left Everton for Real Madrid, there were question marks over his future.

It didn’t take long to see some speculation surrounding the Colombian’s future. But James gave some clarity on his future, revealing that a return is unlikely and he would like to continue at Everton in an Instagram live session, with Rodriguez having an year remaining on the two-year deal he signed last summer.

But just three days after his answer, rumours started circulating about Carlo Ancelotti wanting James at Real Madrid. A reputed Colombian source named Gol Caracol said that Real Madrid has an option to get James for free.

When we see the lines “Florentino Perez wants to bring a player back”, it is difficult to believe that a move might be possible. Every Madridista knows that once Perez decides anything, he would never reverse it. Once Perez sells a reputed player, he wouldn’t think of signing them again. Even if it is one of the best players in the world Cristiano Ronaldo, Florentino Perez doesn’t like to reopen a chapter that has been closed already.

James Rodriguez is a quality player, no disrespect to him. But Real Madrid shouldn’t be setting their sights on a 29-year-old injury-prone player. James suffered as many as six different injuries in the 2020/21 season, which made him miss 15 Premier League games for Everton.

And considering the fact that Real Madrid has a youth policy now, James Rodriguez shouldn’t be considered as an option. There might be a small possibility that Carlo Ancelotti is still thinking about James, but once he looks at younger and similar players in Martin Odegaard, Brahim Diaz and Sergio Arribas, even Don Carlo would remove that thought from his mind.

Personally, I am a huge fan of James Rodriguez and I wanted to see him succeed at Real Madrid. But in the current scenario, I hope this rumour doesn’t come true. After everything James has gone through in his career, James needs to stay in peace. At this age, he will only struggle at Real Madrid and looking at his injury history, it is difficult to see him endure the physical workload.
