GIORGIO CHIELLINI

Giorgio Chiellini’s contract with Juventus expired a month ago on June 30th and he is yet to agree to a new deal with the Bianconeri. Whether the Serie A giants plan to offer their captain a fresh contract remains to be seen, particularly because he is taking an extended vacation after winning the European Championships earlier this month. However, Real Madrid could pounce on him.

Although it goes against the club’s policy to sign players who are aged and that is one of the main reasons why they could not strike a deal with Sergio Ramos, it must be known that the defence is facing desperate times and Chiellini may be a brilliant signing for the shorter run. He will just be offered a one-year contract in all likelihood, exactly what Juventus may offer, if at all they do.

He is a serial winner and flexed his superior quality in the Euros, when he played every single minute as Italy emerged victorious at the Wembley Stadium in a penalty shootout against England three weeks back. At 36 years of age, he will be a cut-price option, too, in terms of wages and can be called off the bench if he is ready to play a second fiddle role behind the current options.

Carlo Ancelotti could also get along very well with him given that they are compatriots.
