Real Madrid center back Eder Militao is establishing himself as one of the best players in the world at his position. He is having a fantastic season, as exemplified by his ability to help keep Real in matches they are otherwise struggling in. You can imagine how much worse the damage would have been in the first leg of the Champions League, for example, without Militao’s fine work.

Transfer rumors are nothing new to the Brazilian. Since arriving in Madrid, Militao has been subject to some laughable rumors, including the idea that the club would give up on him after just one season, even though he played well.

The 50 million euro investment has more than paid off for Madrid, as he has been the best signing of that summer transfer window. And now, Militao is starting to catch the eyes of other huge clubs in Europe, most namely Chelsea. The Blues, who are in the market for a top young center back and also have Jules Kounde on their wishlist, have been showing a great deal of interest in the ex-Porto man.

Nathan Gissing of GianlucaDiMarzio.com confirms Chelsea’s interest in Eder Militao. In fact, he writes that Chelsea and Militao had negotiations in December, but nothing came of those talks. They may even have another meeting this spring, but that remains unclear.

Whereas Gissing states that Militao does not seem to have any interest in struggling Manchester United, it does seem like he has some level of mutual interest in the London-based club.

Eder Militao prefers staying with Real Madrid to joining Chelsea

However, Militao’s “main priority”, per the report, is to renew. He wants to stay in Madrid.

And obviously, Los Blancos want to keep him. Militao is one of the best center backs in Europe and has a chance to be THE best in the world in the next few years. He is the heir to Sergio Ramos in the eyes of quite a few Madridistas, as they are impressed with his tenacity and defensive covering. Militao has always stepped up in big games, and few can forget the commanding performance he had at the Anoeta this season against Real Sociedad.

Hopefully, Militao and Real get this deal done as soon as possible and get the player under contract for another five seasons. Militao is special, and Chelsea’s interest is just the latest indication. But with all due respect to the reigning Champions League winners who knocked the Merengue club out, there is no place like Madrid.
