Virtually every position in the Real Madrid starting XI is known going into every big game. When healthy, Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, David Alaba, and Ferland Mendy form the preferred back four in front of Thibaut Courtois. The “KCM” midfield is entrenched, too. And Carlo Ancelotti knows he can count on Karim Benzema and Vinicius Jr. in the attack as Ballon d’Or candidates.

However, the right wing position is the one that is up for debate. Earlier this season, it was due to a lack of a standout option. Now, it is because Carlo has two young players he can trust in Fede Valverde and Rodrygo Goes.

Madridistas have been wondering which of these two young stars will start in Saturday night’s Champions League Final vs. Liverpool in Paris.

According to Sergio Quirante on Directo Gol, Fede Valverde will start over Rodrygo Goes for Real Madrid on the right wing against Liverpool this weekend.

It is the right choice.

Rodrygo has been instrumental in Real reaching the Champions League Final this season, scoring the goal that saved them against Chelsea before forever etching his name into the history books with a rapid-fire brace to rescue Madrid vs. Manchester City.

But Fede has also been vital to Real getting to this point. He wants to be the one to score goals and has come close often lately. For now, Fede is the one who puts in a lot of the dirty work, and that coverage is especially vital in the big games. Valverde does all the little things to set Real Madrid up for success, particularly late in the match.

So Valverde can start to provide defensive cover against Liverpool and the running and intensity that is needed to counter Jurgen Klopp’s heavy metal brand of football.

Then late in the game, Rodrygo can be the hero, carrying his breakout form onto the Stade de France when (perhaps even “if”, but let’s not push our luck!) Real Madrid need him most.
