Former Real Madrid striker highlights area of concern for the club

Real Madrid’s squad is not perfect. Well, no squad is, but for Real, the main problem is clearer than it is for other teams. I won’t say the whole forward line is a problem, because that couldn’t be farther from the truth.

One spot is occupied by Vinicius Jr., perhaps the best left-winger from last season, or at least one of the top three. Then the starting striker spot is occupied by Karim Benzema, the best player in the world. The third one is tricky, because it is currently occupied by no one. Not fully.

Rodrygo has tried to get it, and he will probably be the starting winger next season, Fede Valverde has played there many times, and he has a shot there as well, especially since Ancelotti considers him to be untouchable.

But, there’s one thing that would be lacking from this squad still, unless Rodrygo has a breakout season similar to Vini’s; it’ll be the lack of goalscorers, as pointed out by former Real Madrid striker Fernando Morientes, when he talked about the one true problem with this Real Madrid squad:

Well, let’s just say he wasn’t fully right, but he wasn’t fully wrong either.

Real Madrid have another goalscorer in Vinicius Jr., but Morientes has a point

Vinicius scored over 20 goals last season, and is bound to score more next season, judging by how seriously he’s taken the preseason, from the looks of it at the very least. But, Real do need another proper scorer, and of course, continued consistent production from both Vini and Benzema.

The third guy could be anyone. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a new signing, but it would be better for Real if it is actually a new signing. Gnabry would be pretty good. But I would also bet some money on Rodrygo hopefully taking a leap next season and showing everyone how good he is. The latter is very tough, especially if we’re talking about the next season.

Player development is a slow process, usually. Rodrygo might still take a huge leap next season, but I think Real would be better off signing a goalscoring winger and having both of those players compete for the last spot.

dark. Next. Chelsea show interest in a player that is perfect for Real Madrid

Asensio doesn’t cut it, unfortunately, and Real do need a winger. I hope the club recognises it, and makes a move as soon as possible.
