Real Madrid have made it pretty clear, in reports and tweets by journalists, that the idea for them is to sell the players they can, and hopefully, sign someone if enough players are sold.

The club’s higher-ups look at the squad as complete, and they don’t think it requires more signings unless the players they want to let go of, finally leave the club. Asensio, Mariano and Ceballos are the main players on the transfer market, and it remains to be seen from now until the end of the transfer window what happens to them. Reinier is also a player they’re looking to loan out as soon as possible.

Reports out of Spain on Monday did talk about a player the club was interested in, but couldn’t sign.

According to MARCA, Real Madrid were interested in signing Gabriel Jesus the most, but they couldn’t sign him because of the lack of non-EU spots on the roster.

Carlo Ancelotti’s favourite option to reinforce Real Madrid’s attack was Gabriel Jesus

Well, it can’t happen now, can it?

Gabriel Jesus is a wonderful player, he scored against Real Madrid last season, and he also scored against Real the last time the two clubs faced off, which was in 2020. He would’ve been a great asset to have, but, the non-EU spots make these signings difficult.

It’s actually a little annoying that Vinicius Jr., Eder Militao and Rodrygo Goes still haven’t received their Spanish passports. I’m not even talking about all three of them. I just mean even one would work, wouldn’t it? At least it’ll give Real a leash to work with, it’ll give Real a few more options to sign, one of which would’ve been Gabriel Jesus had he not signed for Arsenal instead.

Jesus has scored a few goals for Arsenal in the pre-season already, and it’s looking like a good signing. He would’ve helped Real Madrid a lot, particularly after Karim Benzema’s time at Real gets over. He’d have been a great understudy to the Frenchman, and if he had improved on the goalscoring aspect, it would’ve been even better.

Jesus is fantastic, and it sucks that Real weren’t able to sign their supposed favourite option.
