Why Real Madrid may be more active in the January 2023 transfer window

Real Madrid, let’s just say, haven’t had the most active transfer window so far. They have made two signings – two excellent signings – but apart from that, they haven’t really given us anything. They’re trying to make some sales, and it’s tough to see them actually make a signing of note.

And no, I am not including Castilla signings here. They do not count.

Real’s passiveness in the transfer window does make some sense. There isn’t a whole lot to work with in the first place. Well, there was, but Real Madrid did let go of a few deals for God knows what reason. They could’ve at least attempted to sign Serge Gnabry, they could’ve attempted to sign Sadio Mane on a short contract. Well, decisions were made and at the end of the day we are still left with Marco Asensio.

But, according to MARCA, there is reason to believe Real Madrid will be more active in January 2023. They say, via Twitch, that after the World Cup, and hopefully after getting Spanish passports for non-EU players, Real Madrid’s plan is to keep a close eye on the market for the January transfer window in 2023.

Waiting for the passports to arrive does open up Real Madrid’s choices a little more

There are a bunch of players on the market that Real Madrid would’ve been interested in, but they wouldn’t have been able to sign them because they’d have taken up a non-EU spot, something that Real currently don’t have.

If that problem goes out of the way, Real will definitely have more room and more options to work with. Players like Antony of Ajax, someone who isn’t even being linked to Real because of his nationality, suddenly will become available for the club. There are a bunch of players that would be great, but honestly, Antony is the one that makes me the most excited. He’s so good, and the Brazilian flair on both wings would be absolutely fantastic.

There must be a bunch of other players that Real will look at, but in general, it’s better to have your eyes on the market in January. Some players may want a move, it would make sense for the club to wait until then.

Next. Real Madrid’s asking price for Marco Asensio might be too high. dark

However, I am still kind of annoyed how easily Real Madrid passed on some players that would’ve helped them this season, but what’s done is done, and hopefully, Real Madrid have a clear plan for the January transfer window, if they are truly done for this summer.
