Real Madrid fans have a few weeks to celebrate Luka Modric's career at the club. The Croatian legend will be leaving the club at the end of the Club World Cup - whenever that is - and will be joining some other team at the age of 40, which is still unheard of for any level.
He has already trained one last time at Valdebebas, as the team has travelled to the United States for the upcoming competition.
He is not stepping down any levels, though. Modric still wants to fight at the top level, and there have been reports of him being linked to various Italian clubs.
The club with the most links was Milan, and there is a football icon who has basically confirmed his move to one of Italy's biggest clubs.
A former icon has basically confirmed Luka Modric's next destination
Cafu was asked about the entire move, and he handled it as if the move had already taken place. As if Modric was already considered a Milan player.
There was a lot of praise coming from the Brazilian legend, and rightfully so.
He said: "I saw him a few days ago but he didn't ask me anything about how life is in Milan (laughs). It's a move by Milan who in the past have bought several experienced players who have football in their blood.
"Luka is a born leader and a former Ballon d'Or winner: he moves the ball like few others in the world and for him age doesn't matter.
"Maybe we don't realize it, but it's the former Real Madrid captain who has arrived, one with a suitcase full of titles."
Modric has left Madrid in a way. I am sure he will be back for a trophy parade in case Real Madrid win the Club World Cup, but if they don't, this could have effectively been a goodbye in a way.
But, it is good to see that he is keeping his level high.
Milan are not a Champions League contending side - they will not even play in Europe next season. But, it is a club with a lot of history and a lot of charisma.
Whenever you leave Real Madrid, it is always a step dowwn, but Milan is as good of a step down historically as you could get.
