Barcelona’s Gavi is a damn good player. But we all hate him. He’s annoying on the pitch and engages in so much off-the-ball gamesmanship that he rarely avoids confrontations with Real Madrid players.

Even though he plays with many of them for Spain, like Raul Asencio, uneasy confrontations between the two have become a regular occurrence lately.

Gavi is a brilliant midfielder. He’s so technically gifted that he doesn’t need to do the extra things he does, but I guess that’s just built into him, and Real Madrid players and fans will have to tolerate it for many years to come.

You know how much hate there is for Gavi among Real Madrid fans. But what he recently said has given Los Blancos supporters the most unexpected reason to like something about him.

Barcelona’s Gavi stuns by naming a Real Madrid magician as his idol

In a recent interview alongside other players, Gavi was asked about his footballing idol, and the midfielder replied, “Isco.”

For all that Gavi does on the pitch, you’d expect him to show a hint of decency only on the last day of this planet, but this came out of nowhere.

This is especially ironic because Gavi and Isco aren’t even similar kinds of players. Isco is elegant and creative, while Gavi has been a defensive engine for the Catalan club.

But yes, the idolization makes sense in hindsight. The magic of Isco, especially during the three-peat era, inspired a generation of midfielders. He was something special, and his departure was difficult to process.

Gavi naming Isco as his idol is unexpected and funny for Real Madrid fans. I don’t know how Barcelona supporters will take it, but it certainly won’t be in good spirits.

And if Raul Asencio is reading this article, maybe go a little easy on Gavi next time. He’s somewhat decent.
