Bernardo Silva has now signed for Real Madrid from Manchester City. Los Blancos are now eying another player from City, Ruben Dias.

The Mirror has reported that "Jose Mourinho is plotting a shock £80m swoop on Manchester City for Ruben Dias."

Mourinho is set to become Real Madrid's next manager to get the club back to winning trophies. They are on the back of two straight seasons without lifting silverware.

The Portuguese manager may be considered past his best by many. However, signing Silva and Marc Cucurella too shows that the draw of playing under Mourinho is still there.

Shoring up the defense appears to be Mourinho's priority. Along with Dias, Los Blancos have also been linked with Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries.

Would Ruben Dias be a good fit for Real Madrid?

Dias did not have the best of seasons with City as they failed to win the Premier League in Pep Guardiola's final campaign with the club. He missed games with a recurring hamstring injury and was often benched. In total, he played just 26 Premier League games last season, and once in their last nine matches in the division.

However, there is no doubt that he is a winner; he has claimed four Premier League titles with City and the Champions League. Dias is now 29, so experienced, but still young enough to have a good couple of seasons ahead of him.

Los Blancos need new defenders because their current ones are unreliable. David Alaba is departing the club. Antonio Rudiger is now 33, and Eder Militao is injury-prone. Whilst Raul Asencio and Dean Huijsen were both out of form last season.

Silva might be able to help convince Dias to join him at Real Madrid. They are currently both at the World Cup with Portugal, who take on DR Congo in their opening game of the tournament today.

It would be seen as the end of an era at City if Dias were to leave the club too. The center-back, along with Silva were a key part of the success that they had under Guardiola. Enzo Maresca is expected to replace Guardiola at City. Maresca has worked at the club before as assistant to Guardiola. He has also had success with both Leicester City and Chelsea. However, he has a big job on his hands to emulate the success that Guardiola had.

Dias has been with City since 2020 and was previously only with Benfica. Therefore, it could be time for a fresh challenge for the defender. The lure of playing for Real Madrid is often too strong for players who are even at the top Premier League clubs.
