Jose Mourinho wanted multiple center backs to help the Real Madrid squad this summer transfer window, and while he got a world class player in Ibrahima Konate as a free agent from Liverpool to kick the window off, out of all the new signings coming to the Santiago Bernabeu, the Frenchman actually still remains the only central defender to join the club.

While Mourinho is dreaming of bigger additions like Alessandro Bastoni and the fans are wondering about Spanish World Cup hero Aymeric Laporte, a more modest name could be in the cards for Mou if Real Madrid are finally able to sell off Raul Asencio and clear space for that last center back.

Former academy star Jacobo Ramon has been in the shadow of his old Castilla teammate Nico Paz in Como, but he also had a great 2025/26 season and was one of the best Serie A players in his position for a side that surprised everyone with a Champions League bid.

Jacobo Ramon is in focus for Real Madrid

Now, Como are on the verge of signing Chelsea center back Trevoh Chalobah after the Blues spent 60 million stone cold singles on Maxence Lacroix in central defense. Fabrizio Romano reports that Como think they are close to agreeing to a 30 million euro transfer with Chelsea for Chalobah and that Todd Boehly's "green light" will come any second now, as Como already agreed to terms with the long time Serie A target for some time.

Chalobah joining Como could make the club more open to selling Jacobo Ramon. While Ramon would still be highly valuable to the Serie A side, they would be more amenable to a sale for not much more than what they bought Chalobah for if Real Madrid were to come to them with an offer.

Real Madrid were actually linked to Ramon quite strongly when the summer transfer window first started, though Jose Mourinho has since turned to bigger names like Alessandro Bastoni and Nico Schlotterbeck. For a variety of reasons, grave controversy in the case of Bastoni and an injury in Schlotterbeck's situation, Real Madrid have stopped their interest in these players.

But Mourinho still wants another central defender, and since they are already struggling to find the squad space for Rodri, a lot would hinge on Raul Asencio finally agreeing to leave. Mourinho may take Ramon over nothing, and he would surely take Ramon over Asencio, given the former has better technique and a much better attitude.
