Real Madrid and Chelsea stand to do a lot of business together this summer transfer window. After their former manager Xabi Alonso took the Blues gig to right the ship after they missed out on European football yet again, Chelsea sold Los Blancos one of their key starters in Marc Cucurella, who actually was apparently bound for either Atletico Madrid or Barcelona anyway.

While Real Madrid could yet sign another big name player from Stamford Bridge in center midfielder Enzo Fernandez, who seems quite desperate to leave the club for the Santiago Bernabeu, the topic of discussion in the immediate term is actually a departure from Madrid to London this summer.

Jose Mourinho, per reports in the Spanish media, has received negative intel from Alvaro Arbeloa on left back Alvaro Carreras, a 50 million euro transfer bust from Benfica who struggled badly defensively in the second half of the season and, alongside Dani Ceballos and Dani Carvajal, committed overt insubordination of the manger while also showing a bad attitude on the pitch. Mourinho and Arbeloa are close, and Mourinho has even less of a tolerance for this kind of behavior.

So Carreras is a player Real Madrid are expected to move on from, and Mourinho has already replaced him with Marc Cucurella. But when the Cucurella rumors first emerged, there was already speculation that Carreras could potentially head back the other way, as Xabi Alonso was the one who specifically wanted him at Real Madrid over the others - and Chelsea like signing young players whom they feel have upside.

According to reporting from Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have actually begun internal discussions with Alonso on the possibility of signing Alvaro Carreras from Real Madrid. There are no official, concrete talks, per Romano, but the topic has been broached.

Real Madrid just told Dani Ceballos to kick rocks as a free agent after an embarrassing 2025/26 season in which he played poorly on the pitch, displayed a poor attitude to his teammates and coaches, and may have been a mole. Dani Carvajal, also part of the trio, left as a free agent. So that just leaves Carreras.

Los Blancos are still hoping to land another defensive signing, and while there are other left backs Jose Mourinho wants out because they are not good enough, Carreras is the one who could fetch a fair fee and who may be wanted by other big clubs like Chelsea. If Alonso takes him, Real Madrid fans wil be overjoyed.
