Real Madrid have made their preferred transfer plan known, when it comes to signing Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool in the new year.

2025 has never been closer. In the buildup, it seemed like it would never be here but we are now in the final day of 2024. For football fans, this only means one thing - Let's turn our attention to the January transfer window.

Real Madrid had a splendid 2024. In fact, the calendar year couldn't have been better for Los Blancos, as they won everything in sight.

That said, the start to the 2024/25 season could have been better. Unfortunately, too many points were unnecessarily dropped and Kylian Mbappe took some time to adjust to his new surroundings.

Therefore, Florentino Perez will have his eye on making some new additions in the new year to facilitate the long-term plan.

One name who could be a standout addition to Real Madrid in 2024 is Trent Alexander-Arnold. This ie especially the case after Spanish reports claimed yesterday that Real Madrid were on the verge of signing the Liverpool superstar.

According to a report from MARCA, Real Madrid would prefer to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold in the January transfer window. This would involve a transfer fee being paid to Liverpool.

However, Los Blancos are prepared to be patient with signing him for free after his contract expires, if Liverpool do not wish to negotiate in the new month.

Real Madrid are not strangers to signing players before their contracts expire. This is what has made Real Madrid a financial powerhouse - They haven't needed to cut costs but they have the pulling power to save money on such incomings.

The Spanish capital is known to be a very rich club. In fact, this year, the club surpassed the €1 billion threshold for the first time in the club's history. Therefore, it has never been in a healthier financial position.

In usual circumstances, Real Madrid would prefer to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold at the end of his contract, to avoid the transfer fee. However, injuries within the squad has required Carlo Ancelotti to be more proactive in his transfer proceedings.

Either way, it is looking increasingly likely that Trent Alexander-Arnold will be a Real Madrid player in 2025. It is now a case of waiting to see whether it is in January or in July.
