Dani Carvajal just advocated more for Trent Alexander-Arnold than himself

And he's left Real Madrid in an awkward position.

It has not been that long since the season has started - not even a month, actually - but Real Madrid have been involved in controversy more times than they would have liked.

I mean, it has not always been someone from the club causing a scene. Last week, it was the referee who threw Real Madrid under the bus. This time, though, it was their own captain.

Dani Carvajal got a really unnecessary straight red card for head-butting Gerónimo Rulli in a clash before a corner kick in the second half.

It was completely unnecessary, and Carvajal would probably tell you that himself.

Dani Carvajal getting a red card after Trent's injury just made everything so much worse

It would have been absolutely fine if one thing hadn't happened. It would've been all good, you know? Trent Alexander-Arnold, a brilliant right-back, could have slotted back into his position for the next three Champions League games, and no one would bat an eyelid on why Carvajal did what he did.

Oh, except the fact that Carvajal came on for Trent when he got injured three minutes into the match.

That is what makes everything so, so annoying and weird for Real Madrid fans. Carvajal is the captain of this team for a reason.

He must show that. And instead, he goes and clashes with a player, resulting in a suspension that puts his own club in a really bad situation.

It almost seems like he wants Alonso to put Trent in at right-back, and not himself. It was so careless.

Anyway, people were discussing replacements. Will it be Fede Valverde yet again? Valverde, who has finally found his position in the squad on a consistent basis, may have to go back to the position Carlo Ancelotti relied on him for in big games last season.

Or, will it be Raúl Asencio, who has never had a brilliant game at right-back, nor is the sample size nearly as big as it should be?

Or, finally, should it be someone from the academy? Or from Castilla? Maybe it should be Jesus Fortea, who is well known as one of the best players in Real Madrid's youth setup for quite some time.

One thing is for sure, Carvajal could have avoided this discussion. He could have avoided this article from being written. That was never going to be something I expected from Carvajal.

Has Carvajal had bad moments before? Absolutely, every player has, at one point or the other in their career. However, has Carvajal held an important role on the team, when the player he came on for was out due to injury? Probably not.

It is annoying, and Carvajal better hope Trent's injury is not serious at all. If it is, then there is more chaos due at Valdebebas.
