Real Madrid fans are enjoying these last few days more than they thought they would with the way this entire election process started with Florentino Perez’s wild press conference.
Everyone thought this election process was going to be a bad PR move for the club. However, Enrique Riquelme may have indirectly brought out the best version of Florentino Perez, who is now very focused and intense with what he wants to achieve with Real Madrid.
Riquelme may have never won the election in the first place, but it has awakened a version of Perez that many fans thought was gone, and it's only for the benefit of the club if this version of the Spaniard continues to stay.
Perez has been talking about signing players for Real Madrid this season, but there are some names that, although they have been mentioned in the past few months, may not be coming to Madrid after all.
Florentino Perez doesn't want an elite player most Real Madrid fans do
One of those players is Rodri, who has been linked with Real Madrid for the last year and has also claimed that he would eventually want to play for Real Madrid one day.
However, according to The Athletic, Rodri will not be joining Real Madrid if Florentino Perez stays as the president of the club. The player was offered to Real Madrid, but Perez does not want him.
As good as Rodri is as a player, there are always doubts regarding his fitness because he went through an ACL injury that took a lot out of him in 2024, and it seems like he hasn't really properly recovered from it since then.
Obviously, he is still playing good football, really good football in fact, but it is also clear that Rodri is just not the same player that he was before the injury, at least at the moment.
He might still become a version that's very close to the one that essentially won the Ballon d'Or, but Perez probably does not want to take that risk as the president of Real Madrid.
Riquelme has ensured that his first signing, if he is to be president of the club, will be Rodri.
So, in at least one way, Rodri's future at Real Madrid is still possible, but that one way is really unlikely by the looks of it.
Perez probably wants younger players to play for Real Madrid anyway, as everyone has seen that the club's now been linked to the likes of João Neves and Vitinha from PSG.
So, it is clear that Perez is looking for a younger profile, and for Rodri, it is unfortunate because he seems like he's always wanted to play for the club.
He is an elite player, and many fans would still take him at the club, but Perez just does not seem to think it is the right move.
