Real Madrid have not been able to have the continuity required to win titles. Not in terms of form, and certainly not in terms of injuries. Whenever Real Madrid get a player or two back, some others go down and join the injury list.
Kylian Mbappe got injured against Arsenal on Wednesday, and missed the game against Athletic Club due to the same reason.
Now, Carlo Ancelotti - who could be replaced by a former manager if he leaves - has given a huge update on his fitness levels as Real Madrid prepare to face Getafe on Wednesday.
Real Madrid should have Ferland Mendy and Kylian Mbappe ready for Barcelona, according to Ancelotti
This is massive for Real Madrid. They have struggled to keep the left-back spot consistent all season, whether it is due to poor form or injury or both. Mendy, Camavinga, Fran Garcia, and David Alaba have all played on that spot, and none of them have been able to properly show how much they deserve to start there regularly.
Camavinga was brilliant against Athletic, but he is not a left-back, so having Mendy back for the crucial matches of the season could be huge for Real Madrid, but that is assuming he is back to his best.
Mbappe is an obvious positive. He has had a shaky last few games at the club, but overall, this season has been good for him as he has scored 33 goals. He has to improve massively though, if Real Madrid want to win titles in the future with him as the talisman.
Real Madrid face Barcelona on Saturday evening in their first chance of winning major silverware this season. And for that, they would have to play their best game of the season so far.
