Although there are still some loose ends to be tied up with Enrique Riquelme trying to take the presidency away from Florentino Perez, at this point, nobody doubts that Jose Mourinho is going to be the next manager of the club, with even David Ornstein of The Athletic confirming a three year pact to reunite Mou with the Bernabeu.
Mourinho did not win the Champions League in his first term at the club, but he did win La Liga and set the points record, with the Champions Leagues then following from successors Carlo Ancelotti and Zinedine Zidane.
Perez and Real Madrid are clearly excited about bringing Mourinho back, especially since they are in a dark place right now, going trophyless in consecutive seasons with a lot of unrest and player egos causing negative headlines around the club.
Jose Mourinho is ready to bring him on
Mourinho is expected to revamp the defense, and Real Madrid are set to change their transfer policies so the Portuguese international can succeed as manager. One of the first big decisions Real Madrid are leaving up to Mou is the future of Nico Paz, who apparently wants to stay with Como after a dream season for the Italian upstarts, carrying them to the Champions League as one of the top five overall players in European football.
According to a report from Italian transfer insider Gianluca Di Marzio, via Madrid Xtra, Jose Mourinho has made his decision on Paz. He wants the Argentinian attacking midfielder at Real Madrid immediately this summer transfer window, and he is even reportedly insisting on Los Blancos keeping him in the first team, buying him back from Como for less than 10 million euros.
Although some Madridistas are still debating Paz and there is even a school of thought that it is better to keep him at Como if he wants to stay there, given the merits of him learning some more with Champions League responsibilities before fighting for a starting spot at the Santiago Bernabeu.
However, Real Madrid lacked technical quality, progression, and someone in the midfield who could provide control and creativity while still being an all around midfielder as more of an 8 than a 10. So those who think Nico Paz is more of a playmaker and would interfere with Arda Guler are missing the fact that he was among Serie A's leaders in ball recoveries and tackles won from midfield, as well as a great progressive passer and dribbler. He has the grit and fight with the upside to be a future Luka Modric, and it's obvious why Jose Mourinho would want a character like that.
