Jose Mourinho once had a 'great relationship' with the guy Real Madrid desperately need

Jose Mourinho was clearly admired by one of his former players.

Jose Mourinho worked with Harry Kane during his short stint at Tottenham Hotspur. The now Bayern Munich player expressed how he got on with Mourinho after the manager's shock sacking.

Speaking to Sky Sports back in 2021, Kane said, "I had a great relationship with Jose, I wish him all the best for whatever his next job is, but he knows as we know football can be cut-throat and we just have to look forward. We have a big final to prepare for now and we're looking forward to that."

This was Kane talking ahead of the EFL Cup final that year, where Spurs lost to Manchester City. It still seems a ludicrous decision to sack Mourinho ahead of that final. Tottenham were on their trophy drought then, and Mourinho is a proven winner.

Due to his hunt for major silverware, Kane joined Bayern Munich in 2023 and went on to win the Bundesliga twice and the DFB-Pokal.

Does Real Madrid have the chance of signing Harry Kane?

Kane has been linked with Real Madrid in the past, but he appears settled in Germany. However, he will have one year remaining on his contract next summer.

Mourinho is set to return to Real Madrid as their manager this summer following his stint back at Benfica. It seems surprising that Mourinho is going to be the boss again at the Santiago Bernabeu, as it looked like he was past managing at the highest level.

Since managing Tottenham, Mourinho has been in charge of AS Roma, Fenerbahce, and now Benfica. Real Madrid have not won a trophy in their last two seasons. Therefore, bringing in Mourinho, who is an expert at claiming silverware, could be a smart appointment.

Los Blancos had Xabi Alonso in charge last season, who was highly rated from his time at Bayer Leverkusen. He won the Bundesliga, the DFB-Pokal, and got them to the Europa League final. However, he was sacked by Real Madrid mid-way through the campaign and replaced by Alvaro Arbeloa.

The chances of Mourinho signing Kane to Real Madrid are slim. However, Los Blancos still have Kylian Mbappe and Gonzalo Garcia as strikers. Mbappe still managed 25 goals in 31 La Liga games this season. Whilst Garcia scored just six in 30 league matches. There is talk that he could leave Los Blancos this summer. Therefore, Mourinho may need to sign another striker for Real Madrid.
