Real Madrid have been really unlucky when it comes to injuries to key players this season. With key players like Eder Militao, David Alaba, Dani Carvajal out with long term injuries since the beginning of the season, the club is already dealing with a lot of injury problems.
But just when it seemed like the worst was behind them, another key player has picked up an injury that will keep him out for up to four weeks.
Andriy Lunin could be out injured for upto four weeks
On Saturday, Real Madrid were pushed to the brink by Real Sociedad. Los Blancos had to play extra time to make it through to the finals. This certainly took a toll on the players in terms of fatigue. To make things worse, reports have confirmed that Real Madrid’s goalkeeper Andriy Lunin has picked up an injury against Real Sociedad.
According to Mario Cortegana of The Athletic FC, “Lunin underwent tests yesterday and has a soleus injury that could keep him out around 4 weeks. He is considering taking injections to face Valencia, with the risk that it could worsen the problem. The idea is to test him in training tomorrow and make a decision.”
Real Madrid are set to face Arsenal in the semifinals of the Champions League next week. With Thibaut Courtois already out with injury and still a doubt for the Arsenal match, the club is facing a significant injury crisis at the moment. If neither Courtois nor Lunin is available for the Arsenal match, the only option left would be Fran Gonzalez.
The 19-year old will probably get his debut for the first team against Valencia. It will be interesting to see how he performs. One youngster has certainly impressed this season already. Raul Asencio has been playing well this season after given the opportunity due to injuries. Could Fran Gonzalez do the same? We never know.
Real Madrid are at a vital point in the season, and this new injury will undoubtedly impact the team. But then again, we are talking about Real Madrid, and they always find a way even in difficult situations. This will be no different, and Los Blancos will surely find a way to overcome this challenge as well.
