Real Madrid are yet to lose a match this season. However, in La Liga, they have dropped an invaluable four points. For context, they have picked up five points out of a possible nine.
For a club of Real Madrid's standard, it simply isn't good enough. However, bad starts are nothing that Real Madrid aren't used to, and if anything, Carlo Ancelotti should be given more leeway this season due to the new system.
It is easy for fans to criticise. Especially those who follow the Spanish media, who are known to be incredibly critical of Real Madrid.
However, let it be known that Carlo Ancelotti is his own harshest critic. In fact, he has taken full responsibility for Real Madrid drawing against Las Palmas last night.
Carlo Ancelotti reveals what he thinks Real Madrid are lacking right now
Speaking to the press after the draw against Las Palmas, Carlo Ancelotti placed equal emphasis on his players' shortcomings and his own responsibility as a manager to organise them better.
In his own words (via Madrid Universal), Carlo Ancelotti said: "It has been a bad first half. We have a hard time finding the play right now. We have to endure and suffer a little because the team does not have a good balance. We are not fast in circulation and we find it difficult to recover the ball,”
Squad balance has been a key talking point for Carlo Ancelotti at the start of this season. It is something the Italian clearly places an emphasis on and something he struggles to instil.
In many ways, this is a natural byproduct of the attack signings being made. Real Madrid signed Endrick and Kylian Mbappe this summer, adding them to an already prominent attack.
However, with both Eduardo Camavinga and Jude Bellingham injured, Real Madrid have not signed a midfielder to step in their void. This could end up costing Real Madrid.
Elaborating further, Carlo Ancelotti took responsibility, stating: “I have to be clearer in the strategy to give clarity to the players. It’s costing us more than you might think,”
Carlo Ancelotti is oftentimes a tranquil manager. It takes a lot to faze him, since he often has things in order. So, he will hope to bounce back in La Liga this weekend, when Real Madrid host Real Betis.
Improvements are certainly needed but it is not time to panic yet.
