After just one La Liga game, Carlo Ancelotti is forced into reconsidering his strategy for the season ahead. Recent news has broken which suggests Real Madrid will be without their star player for around a month, due to an injury scare. It was today confirmed by the club that Jude Bellingham has suffered an injury in the plantaris muscle in his right leg.
In an official club statement, Real Madrid confirmed this by saying: "Following tests carried out today on Jude Bellingham by Real Madrid's medical team, the player has been diagnosed with an injury to the plantaris muscle in his right leg. His progress will be monitored."
According to Fabrizio Romano on X (formerly Twitter), Jude Bellingham is ruled out of contention for Real Madrid until after the September international break.
Real Madrid star player ruled out for a month with injury
There is no denying that losing Jude Bellingham towards the beginning of the season is a big blow for Real Madrid. Last season, he was one of the best players at the club. He scored the most amount of goals in La Liga and he truly set the world alight in his first season for Real Madrid.
Jude Bellingham had a great summer at the Euros with England, reaching the final but losing against Spain. He also played excellently in the UEFA Super Cup, which Real Madrid won thanks to his assist for Kylian Mbappe's goal and his involvement in the first. So, he was excited for an incredible season with Real Madrid.
Hopefully, the proper rest from football will now give Bellingham the necessary fuel to his fire upon his return. This season, Real Madrid are projected to win everything in sight. They did so last season and they've only improved over summer. Therefore, having Bellingham available to them again will help their fight for more silverware.
Jude Bellingham may have to play in different roles throughout the season. In terms of flexibility, he is one of the best assets to Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian boss has spoken a lot about Real Madrid's need to balance this season, which could be achieved through playing Jude Bellingham in a deeper or a box-to-box role. Either way, he is cut out for a new role, being fluid in his playing style.
