Thibaut Courtois returned to face his former club in the Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid clash. Unfortunately, news emerged about a Thibaut Courtois injury.
Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid had everything. Drama, a late goal, a red card and unfortunately a match delay. Thibaut Courtois was at the heart of it, for all the wrong reasons.
Through no fault of his own, he was a target for the home end. Of course, given his previous ties to Atletico Madrid, the Atleti fans do not like that he is now a mainstay for Real Madrid.
Throughout the match, Thibaut Courtois had objects thrown at him. So much so, the referee was left with no choice but to abandon the match for around 20 minutes.
Unfortunately, Real Madrid have today confirmed a Thibaut Courtois injury blow.

According to an official club statement, Thibaut Courtois has suffered an unfortunate injury. It is believed that Courtois carries an abductor injury in his left leg.
In their own words, Real Madrid said: "After tests carried out today on our player Thibaut Courtois by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an abductor injury in his left leg. His progress will be monitored."
Thibaut Courtois very nearly kept a clean sheet against his old side at the weekend. However, Ángel Correa scored a goal in injury time.
Tempers naturally flared as both sides were seeking a winning goal in the final few minutes. In fact, in the 99th minute, Marcos Llorente was even shown a straight red card, thanks to an intervention from VAR.
The extent of Thibaut Courtois' injury remains to be seen. In the new club statement, Real Madrid have informed fans that he will be monitored in due course.
It goes without saying that we wish Thibaut Courtois a speedy recovery. However, it does help Real Madrid's case that Andriy Lunin is prepared to step in if he is required.
The Ukraine goalkeeper played exceptionally well in the absence of Courtois last season. He played so well, in fact, that he was handed a new contract by Real Madrid.
Regardless of the new contract, there is a growing consensus this season could be Lunin's last in the Spanish capital. After all, he is good enough to play in the first team for most European sides.
Either way, Lunin will see this as an opportunity to step up and prove himself yet again to Carlo Ancelotti.
