Real Madrid had a terrific 2023/24 season, winning the treble. They are the best and the biggest club in the world, so the spirits are understandably high. However, behind the scenes, there is still work to be done throughout summer. Less so about signing new players but more so about keeping those standout players happy.

One player who is approaching the end of his contract is the Champions League final hero Dani Carvajal. It was Carvajal who opened the scoring for Real Madrid in the final, matching a Toni Kroos assist with a great headed goal. If you were to place your life savings on one player scoring a header in the Champions League final, it probably wouldn't be Dani Carvajal but alas, he shocked us all.

Now, Real Madrid would like to reward Dani Carvajal for his terrific displays in 2023/24, not just the Champions League final but throughout. As per Fabrizio Romano on X (formerly Twitter), Real Madrid will soon turn their attention to extending Dani Carvajal's contract, which is set to expire in the summer of 2025. They are happy with his performances and commitment, understandably.

This is actually Dani Carvajal's second spell in the Spanish capital, as he returned to Real Madrid after leaving to join Bayer Leverkusen. However, this is by far his most memorable spell as he has played with the first team for 11 years now, cementing his status as a club legend. Ageing just 32 years old, he is showing every sign of continuing at the top level, so Real would like to keep him on board.

Carvajal is part of an elite club to lift the Champions League trophy six times. He certainly had an imprint on the most recent, scoring a goal which shocked everyone. In a match which felt like the whole world was against Real Madrid, they persevered and proved to everyone why they are the best club in the world.

A speedy and energetic full-back, it is completely understandable why Real Madrid would wish to keep Dani Carvajal. While most players would deteriorate at this stage of their careers, Carvajal is playing at the highest level yet and he is ageing like a fine wine. Long may his prosperity continue in the Spanish capital, his home city.
