In recent times, Real Madrid have undergone a transition as the majority of the club’s legends have slowly made way for the next generation of players to shine. Most of the veterans have moved on to pursue their futures elsewhere, like Luka Modric, Karim Benzema and Casemiro, whereas some have hung up their boots altogether, like Toni Kroos.

However, Real still benefit from the experience of Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba and Dani Carvajal in their squad. But it seems that won’t be the case for long either. This is because Carvajal is reportedly likely to leave in the next summer transfer window.

Additionally, the contracts of both Rudiger and Alaba are set to expire soon, with no extension in sight. At a time like this, reports have emerged revealing that the Austrian centre-back’s future has already been decided.

Indeed, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Alaba will leave Real at the end of this season, as a concrete decision has reportedly been reached.

David Alaba set to leave Real Madrid at just the right time

Alaba joined Real from Bayern Munich on a free transfer at a crucial time following the exit of Raphael Varane. In his early days in the Spanish capital, the 33-year-old played a major role for the club and was a key part of their defence.

However, Alaba has lost his place in the squad lately and his minutes have dried up due to repeated injury troubles in recent years. Infact, the veteran defender has appeared in just 10 matches, totalling 240 minutes across all competitions so far this season, which isn’t impressive by any means.

Eder Militao, Dean Huijsen, Rudiger and Raul Asensio are all ahead of the Austrian in the pecking order currently, and honestly speaking it is unlikely to change any time soon moving forward.

In any case, it is probably the best time for Alaba to leave, as this will free up some space for Real to bring in much-needed reinforcements in the summer for the centre-back position. On the other hand, the veteran could also enjoy more playing time elsewhere in the twilight of his career.

Meanwhile, Rudiger is still delivering for the club. Despite that his future remains up in the air, although it would not come as a surprise if he follows Alaba’s path and departs the club as well. It is another development for the fans to keep an eye on.
