It wouldn't be a typical season at Real Madrid if the team wasn't affected by a number of season ending injuries. The squad has lost a number of key players this season to long term injuries which has severely thinned the squad Carlo Ancelotti has at his disposal on any given match day.
The area of the squad most affected is the defence. The squad is still dealing with the injury to David Alaba from last season, and now to add on top of that, defenders Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao are both on the shelf with serious knee injuries and are expected to miss an extended amount of time.
With these injuries in mind, Real Madrid are assessing their options in the centre-back market, looking for players to bring in to be the long term future in the defence. And according to the latest report, the club are eyeing one of the top defenders in the Premier League.
Real Madrid eyeing a move for top Premier League defender
As being reported by TeamTalk, Real Madrid have Arsenal defender William Saliba on their radar as they look to strengthen their leaky and injury riddled defence. Los Blancos have shown interest in Saliba in the past with the Frenchman's camp reacting positively to approaches from the Spanish club.
Saliba has established himself as one of the top centre-backs in the Premier League over the last few seasons which has garnered interest from some of Europe's top teams, including Real Madrid. The report suggests that the 23-year-old has "passed" all of the clubs scouting assessments and a plan for his signing is now taking shape.
The most difficult aspect of the Frenchman's signing is the financial aspect, as Arsenal would be demanding a world record fee for a defender. Harry Maguire remains the most expensive defender of all time with his £80 million fee, however it is expected that William Saliba would set the new benchmark with any potential move to Real Madrid surpassing the £100 million mark.
