Dean Huijsen was presented as a Real Madrid player at Real Madrid City today after passing his medicals. The player will offically wear the 24 number shirt at Madrid.
Shortly after, the Spanish center-back faced questions from the media, discussing his playing style and his dream of joining Real Madrid.
On the day his transfer to Los Blancos was officially announced, Huijsen also disclosed that he received a message from Sergio Ramos, the best center-back in Real Madrid history and possibly all of football.
The center-back said, "He [Sergio Ramos] sent me a message the day it became official. He's my biggest idol, the best center back in history. I wouldn't choose just one thing."
Sergio Ramos is every young defender's milestone
Any developing kid who aspires to be a center-back on the grandest stage can't help but look up to Sergio Ramos, and Huijsen has been that kid since he first started playing football.
Personally, I believe Ramos is the finest center back in football. Many people prefer Paolo Maldini over the Spaniard, and the two are quite close to claiming the job. I may be biased, but I don't conceal it. Ramos is the greatest I've seen.
Huijsen's admiration for Ramos is hardly unknown. The athlete has stated on numerous occasions that he grew up admiring the former Madrid captain and his achievements.
Aside from Huijsen, Raul Asencio, who rose to prominence last season in one of Carlo Ancelotti's rare moments of trusting a Castilla graduate, is frequently likened to Ramos, particularly due to the youngster's ferocity on the field.
Asencio is an excellent center back who shares Ramos' mentality of playing tough on the field and giving his all for the badge, no matter what. He personifies what it means to be a Real Madrid player, and Huijsen must follow suit.
It is extremely likely that Asencio and Huijsen will be the starting center-backs in Xabi Alonso's favored lineup, and both players deserve the honor. However, with such faith from the club and the manager comes the responsibility to meet Sergio Ramos' and the club's expectations.
