Real Madrid are prepared to give up on long-term transfer target Alphonso Davies, as he is close to agreeing a new deal with Bayern Munich.

Real Madrid approached this transfer window with a number of transfer targets in mind. One of those targets who outlived the previous summer transfer window was Alphonso Davies.

Unfortunately, at the second time of asking, Real Madrid are unlikely to get their man. Indeed, the Canadian full-back has halted the decision on his future for too long and now, at the last minute, it doesn't look like it'll be good news for Real Madrid.

So, what next for Real Madrid?

Well, according to a report from AS, Alphonso Davies is leaning towards re-signing his contract with Bayern Munich. At Real Madrid, they are beginning to accept this reality, so they will be looking to move on soon.

The Spanish report is very cutthroat honest towards Alphonso Davies. They claim that the only reason why Davies is on the edge of choosing Bayern Munich is for his own monetary gain.

This is because Bayern Munich have offered Davies an extra €2 million to what Real Madrid can offer him. Therefore, Davies is choosing money over playing for Real Madrid.

Still, Real must not put themselves in a position of playing the victim here. They must know their own worth and move on. If Davies is money-chasing, then he is a bullet which Real Madrid must avoid.

After all, a big part of the reason why Real Madrid are so successful is because of their club culture. Most players who played for Real Madrid, loved the club more than anything else. If money is the sole-motivator of a player, then Florentino Perez knows better than to pursue that player.

For Real, there will be plenty of alternatives. Thankfully, they were not in a position of desperation here. The left-back slot is covered well and isn't as impacted as other positions in the injury crisis.

The Davies rumours were fun while they lasted. If nothing else, at least this transfer saga provided some drama and U-turns.
