Real Madrid transfer target Alphonso Davies is close to signing a contract extension with Bayern Munich in the January transfer window.

Alphonso Davies has been a Real Madrid transfer target for a long time now. Not only was he of interest to Real Madrid in the summer transfer window but he has remained a transfer target through to the current window.

The reason for this is because as it stands, the Canada international is playing his final season under contract at the Allianz Arena. Therefore, if this continues to be the case, he would either be available for a reduced price in January or for free in the summer transfer window.

Well, not if Bayern Munich have anything to do with it...

According to a report from Sky Germany (h/t AS), Alphonso Davies is close to signing a contract extension with Bayern Munich, rather than sign for Real Madrid. It is believed that a crucial meeting is penned in between the Canadian defender's agent and the German club.

Alphonso Davies has never shown any sign of discontent at Bayern Munich. Neither have the Bavarian giants become frustrated by Davies. In fact, they might be surprised to hear that Davies' arrival in the Spanish capital was once considered inevitable.

Of course, the fact that Davies took a long time to extend his stay in Munich did not help one bit. It seemed that the longer the two parties stalled, the sooner he would join Real Madrid. Now, it looks like this won't be the case.

Instead, Real Madrid will use this as fuel to intensify their pursuit for Trent Alexander-Arnold. While the two full-backs play on opposite sides of the defence, Trent was always the priority anyway. After all, Real Madrid have been hit by a right-back and centre-back injury crisis this season, while the left-back position has remained fine overall.
