Real Madrid are in for an interesting summer as Jose Mourinho prepares to take the mantle once again.
Los Blancos need to close the gap to Barcelona after back-to-back frustrating league campaigns, and Mourinho has proven he can disrupt a dominant Blaugrana reign. But what might the squad look like come the start of the new season amid transfer rumours aplenty? Here we take a look.
GK - Thibaut Courtouis
Courtois is going to remain the starter between the sticks, and there is little doubt about that.
LB - Alvaro Carreras
Carreras is clearly Real Madrid's best left-back, and he will lead the way on the left again next season.
CB - Josko Gvardiol
Los Blancos clearly want a new centre-back, and Manchester City's Josko Gvardiol is emerging as an early target. The left-sided centre-back would be a useful addition, also able to play on the left side if needed, and he is a commanding presence, which is something Mourinho is going to want and need at the back.
CB - Dean Huijsen
Huijsen is likely to be the got-partner for Gvardiol as he looks to grow into his young Real Madrid career. Raul Asencio will be battling for the spot.
RB - Trent Alexander-Arnold
Alexander-Arnold has a monopoly on the right-back role as things stand, but Los Blancos need better competition here following Dani Carvajal's departure, so there could be some change.
CM - Enzo Fernandez
Real Madrid have already set their stall out as far as Enzo Fernandez is concerned, leading to player to indicate his preference to leave Chelsea. He would be a huge coup, but likely to cost more than 100 million euros, possibly up to 150million euros, he would be an instant starter should he sign.
CM - Fede Valverde
Mourinho would have options in the midfield, but Fede Valverde would likely have the edge given his energy and the level of bite he plays with - something Mourinho likes. Aurielien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga would provide very strong competition here.
CAM - Jude Bellingham
Bellingham is one of the first names on the teamsheet, and he will be the go-to starter in the attacking midfield role next season, providing Mourinho's system of choice employs one.
LW - Vinicius Jr
Vinicius is another of the obvious selections. The Brazilian is a key part of this attack.
RW - Rodrygo
Los Blancos clearly want a new right winger, but if they are going to spend so much on Fernandez, it's going to be a case of one or the other. Beyond that, none of the very top right wingers are for sale, nor are they going to be sold, so Mourinho may end up being better off sticking with Rodrygo for the time being.
CF - Kylian Mbappe
Mbappe picks himself up top, but you do wonder whether Real Madrid will go out and buy another striker, or whether they will rely on Gonzalo Garcia to provide the competition.
