Real Madrid transfer target open to joining Barcelona instead
By Kian Long
Long-term Real Madrid transfer target Alphonso Davies is shockingly open to joining Barcelona. It's thought he wouldn't mind linking back up with Hansi Flick.
Real Madrid desperately need to sign some defenders in the January transfer window. They now have David Alaba, Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao out with serious injuries, which makes their back-line look depleted and almost unrecognisable.
One player who Real Madrid wanted to sign in the summer transfer window was Alphonso Davies. The Canadian full-back is in the final year of his Bayern Munich contract but in the end, he was not signed by Real Madrid.
The belief is that Real Madrid are still interested in signing the left-back. After all, it takes a lot for Real Madrid to change their mind with transfer matters.
Real Madrid transfer target open to joining Barcelona instead
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Barcelona are tipped to sign Alphonso Davies on a free transfer in the summer. Alphonso Davies would be keen to re-join Hansi Flick in his new role, after all.
Alphonso Davies worked under Hansi Flick between the years 2019-2021. This was a successful period in Bayern Munich history, when the pair won the Bundesliga twice and the Champions League once.
Hansi Flick is accredited with making Alphonso Davies one of the best full-backs in the world. Therefore, the two have a great working relationship, hence why the Canada international is eager to work with him again.
From Real Madrid's perspective, this must not steer them away from their own transfer plan. After all, they are the biggest club in the world and a more attractive destination than Barcelona. Therefore, Real Madrid would be hard pressed to alter their transfer plans based on Barcelona's.
Both Real Madrid and Barcelona are afforded time in this transfer race. As mentioned, Davies is out of contract at the end of the season, meaning he can discuss pre-contract agreements from January.
Of course, Man United remain interested in the full-back. Therefore, the three biggest clubs in the world are lined up to sign Davies, which is a testament to his incredible ability.
Real Madrid might be in a defensive crisis, however, they are in no rush to sign a left-back. Touch wood, it is in the one position of the back line which Barcelona have options for. I only hope that I'm not talking too soon here.
