Real Madrid youngster Victor Munoz has disabled his social media comments after a brutal fan reaction to his El Clasico miss.
El Clasico is one of those matches which can either make or break players. The infamous fixture has made a name for itself throughout history as being the closest fought rivalries, consisting of some of the best players that transcended time.
Unfortunately for Real Madrid fans, the playing field has been far less even this season. In fact, Real Madrid have been embarrassed on more than one occasion by their closest rivals.
Yesterday's Clasico loss was tighter than the scoreline suggested and Real Madrid fans were left with the feeling of expecting more. It is not the first time that Kylian Mbappe has scored a hat-trick on the big stage, only to wind up on the losing team, after all.
Victor Munoz disables comments after Real Madrid backlash
Nevertheless, one player had a brilliant opportunity to equal the scoreline and setup a great finale. Victor Munoz made his professional debut for Real Madrid, off the bench, and sent his first touch wide of Wojciech Szczesny.
It was a real heart-in-mouth moment for any Madridista. The chance was there for the taking, and Munoz could have instantly made a name for himself among the travelling fans. However, it wasn't to be.
Put it down to inexperience or big matchday nerves, Munoz can hardly be blamed. He is a rising star, but nobody thinks he's the finished product yet. The opportunity fell to him, and on another day, he might've finished it.
Nevertheless, beIN Sports noticed that Munoz disabled his social media comments. It is hard to tell whether or not the disabling of comments was prompted by the flood of negative comments Munoz received, but it's a logical conclusion to make.
And frankly, those Real Madrid fans who are casting hatred towards Munoz should be ashamed of themselves. The anger is entirely misplaced on a young player who will already be lacking confidence after the miss.
What good comes out of directing negative comments towards him? None, that's the answer.
Emotions are high among the fanbase, naturally. It is an embarrassing season to support Real Madrid, and the players are mostly at fault. However, as fans, it's easy to forget that those emotions are only heightened in the dressing room.
Given the option, Munoz would have buried that chance and cemented himself as a hero. But he didn't. Cut the youngster some slack.
