Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois stated his desire to start winning trophies again, after Real Madrid's friendly win in Budapest.
Courtois has not played for Real Madrid so far due to his break after the World Cup as well as the injury he suffered in his last game, but everyone knows he will be ready when the season starts, and will once again be absolutely crucial.
The Belgian goalkeeper was asked about his time under Jose Mourinho so far, and he gave comments about that, as well as to hope that the feeling of winning once again returns to the club, as everyone desperately needs it at the moment.
He said: “Jose Mourinho is a great coach; we spent some time at Chelsea. I’m happy to play under him. Personally, I want to win titles again. It is important for the team, the fans and the club to win again."
Real Madrid need more leaders like Thibaut Courtois
For a player like Courtois, who is probably the last person to blame for everything that has gone wrong, to come out and talk so candidly about Real Madrid, is just refreshing to hear.
Everyone knows his heroics come out to save them every single time, but it is less about that and more about his personality and wanting the best from everyone around him. Real Madrid need more blunt leaders like him.
Courtois, as always, is spot here, too. He has not said anything outlandish, or anything that the fans, players, or coaches don't already know, but it is refreshing to hear from players like him.
Real Madrid have not won anything in two years. For some clubs, that is pretty normal, but for Real Madrid it feels like an eternity. There is a lot that the club needs to fix, and although they have solved some of their issues in the transfer market, they were not able to fix all of them.
It is imperative for Real Madrid to win, and the sooner they start doing it, the better it is for the fans. Losing two straight league titles to Barcelona - the second in disgustingly embarrassing fashion at their own stadium - must have lit some sort of fire under the club. At least, that's what fans hope for.
Two years is a long time for Real Madrid to not win a single title, and things just become that much worse when you see some of those titles being picked up by Barcelona pretty easily.
Real Madrid fans feel dispondent about the future. The club, at the moment, is at one of its weakest points in recent history. There are internal disputes. There is a new coach at the club. Some new players. And a lot of confusion as to how this season is going to go.
Real Madrid only heals by winning, and the sooner that happens, the better it is for everyone involved with it.
