Vinicius Junior is one of the most successful players for Real Madrid over the past few years. The Brazilian winger is undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with on the left flank when he is in form.
Although this season hasn’t been a particularly good one for Vini so far, he seems to be slowly returning to his best version, which will be important for Real’s chances of winning trophies this campaign.
Unfortunately, Vinicius has been involved in a love-hate relationship with the Los Blancos fans recently and has even been subjected to boos at the Santiago Bernabeu despite delivering some impressive performances for the club lately.
These incidents have cast a shadow of doubt over the 25-year-old’s future at Madrid at a time when he is yet to sign a contract extension. The current agreement between Real and Vinicius runs until the summer of 2027, and several attempts to renew the deal have failed so far.
Now, reports have emerged suggesting that the Brazil international has set a deadline for the extension, putting an urgent matter before the Real Madrid board.
Indeed, according to Fichajes, Vinicius wants a decision on his contract situation before April.
Vinicius wants Real Madrid contract decision
Vinicius’ contract renewal saga has been going on for some time now. While the player wants an upgraded pay structure, Real Madrid are unwilling to accept that demand, as it could trigger a domino effect with similar requests from other squad members.
Meanwhile, both the parties have repeatedly reiterated their wish to resolve the issue as soon as possible. However, failing to do so, Real might be forced to cash in on Vini in the summer transfer window, with clubs like Chelsea, Al Ahli already being linked with the Brazilian.
Notably, Real brought Vinicius in 2018 for a fee of around €45 million. Since then, the Brazilian has gone on to score 113 goals, including some title-winning ones, in 353 matches.
In 2024, Vinicius was even close to winning the Ballon d’Or after a stellar season but was ultimately snubbed, with the award going to Rodri instead. This miss took a heavy toll on the winger, and he hasn’t been able to replicate that form.
Anyway, it remains to be seen if Real and Vinicius can reach a consensus in time, or if the Los Blancos opt to part ways with the player and bring someone new in for the left-wing position. Either way, it looks like the decision will have to be taken sooner than later.
