Real Madrid's friendly win against WSG Tirol had a lot of positives, despite being a game that essentially did not matter because of it being a friendly.
Real Madrid won comfortably, and there were a number of players like Arda Guler, Dean Huijsen and new signing Alvaro Carreras who played well.
The team itself looked better than they did a few months ago, with more chemistry on the pitch, more one-touch passes and smooth build-up play.
Another positive was Rodrygo's performance. Rodrygo played well for the first time in months, and he even scored a really good goal after combining with brace-getter Kylian Mbappe.
It was a good finish from a tight angle. There was something strangely and hilariously ironic about Rodrygo's overall performance, though.
There was something hilarious about Rodrygo's brilliant showing vs WSG Tirol
It came right when Manchester City expressed interest in signing the winger. Literally a day after we saw rumors about Rodrygo potentially joining Manchester City if they sell a few of their wingers, the Brazilian showed his true colors.
Even though it was a friendly, Rodrygo could rarely play like this in previous games. He was combining well, moving the ball quickly and looked good.
One more irony? He played on the left. After a long time, Rodrygo played on his preferred position, when Vinicius Jr was subbed off. And he played well. There is something hilarious about it.
Of course, people have also inevitably brought in Vinicius Jr to this conversation, too. Vinicius Jr has not had the best time in 2025, so according to some fans, maybe it is time to sell him and keep Rodrygo. However, no, it is just one game. It is one friendly game.
Vinicius Jr is still an exceptional player - he just needs to get himself together. On his day, Rodrygo is a great player, but Vinicius Jr has shown time and time again that he loves proving people wrong.
That is going to happen again. As for Rodrygo, I really do wish he plays well if he leaves for Manchester City.
