Real Madrid’s academy has seen a lot of movement lately. A broken signing deal, several departures, and rumours about bringing back former prodigies, there’s never a dull day at La Fabrica.
Gonzalo Garcia from Real Madrid Castilla caused a massive upheaval a few weeks ago by winning the highest goal scorer award at the Club World Cup. He did what he was never expected to do, and his fate has changed big time since.
Real Madrid were on the lookout for a Joselu-type striker for so long, and they searched the market throughout, but in vain, only to realise that the answer was within their own academy.
Garcia’s become precious all of a sudden and has very real prospects of being promoted to the first team next season. Real Madrid do not want to lose him to the Premier League, from where he’s garnering the best and most serious attention.
Gonzalo Garcia’s priority is to stay at Real Madrid
According to a story by Diario AS, Gonzalo wants nothing more than Real Madrid. He’s content at the club, and his sudden rise has astronomically increased the possibility of his promotion.
That’s a given, considering he was an undisputed starter for Xabi Alonso, who didn’t bench him even for Kylian Mbappe. The feeling is clear, Alonso loves the pure striking technique that Garcia brings, something that has been missing for so long, and Gonzalo loves the club and wants to stay.
His current contract runs until 2027, and his €50 million price tag is tempting for many clubs, especially from the Premier League. But his agent is actively negotiating a new contract with Los Blancos that will see him promoted to the first team.
This, however, directly hurts the prospect of Endrick becoming the second-choice striker. Garcia is clearly more technical and, overall, a better striker than the Brazilian youngster, who also wants more minutes to guarantee himself a spot in the Brazilian national team for the 2026 World Cup.
Know that the Brazil manager is now Carlo Ancelotti, who, anyway, was not very fond of Endrick during his time here. So the chances are getting meek as we speak.
