Current Real Betis midfielder Dani Ceballos has made a name for himself in the Spanish Under-21 squad, drawing the attention of Spain’s two giants, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. Los Blancos are convinced that the talented player will elect to sign with them after initial reports indicated that he would stay with Betis for the upcoming season. Ben Sundock has the details.

Why does it always seem like Real Madrid are involved in long, drawn-out transfer talks with players?

First David De Gea a couple summers ago, then this summer, Cristiano Ronaldo, followed by Alvaro Morata, as well as James Rodriguez. It’s just never ending!

Now with Dani Ceballos, the drama continues. After earning MVP honors at the U-21 Euros in Poland last month, both Real and Barca are in hot pursuit of the 20-year-old. And, Real Madrid believe they are in the driver seat in acquiring Ceballos.

Marca are reporting that Los Blancos have been keeping a close eye on the Betis star for well over a year now, and after spending time with Marco Asensio, Jesus Vallejo, and Marcos Llorente while on international duty, have the best odds to sign the promising player.

Ceballos is seen as a replacement for James Rodriguez if he is to leave, and judging from his past tweets regarding the Catalonian side, Barcelona, it would appear that Real are indeed the favorites over their rivals.

Ceballos’ tweets were rather offensive to Barcelona’s team, and their fans, as the then 16-year-old Dani, let loose a barrage of heated tweets, saying: “A bomb needs to fall on the stands and kill all the Catalan and Bizcayan dogs.”

Another criticized center back, Gerard Pique, specifically. “Be quiet Pique and don’t give your opinion about Andalusia, you s**t Catalan.”

It’s truly hard to believe that one, he would tweet these things, and two, that Barca would still be interested in a player who so openly ripped on both the team and the region they play in.

While Real are convinced they will sign the current Real Betis starlet, they have apparently given him a deadline to decide where he will be playing next season.

While Los Blancos may be confident in paying the €15 million release clause in Ceballos’ contract, Dani is clearly unsure of what he wants to do in the near future.

His teammates at Betis have been trying their best to keep him in Seville for the 2017/2018 season with Joaquin urging him to stay. “I am advising you as a team-mate, friend and as a veteran,” Joaquin told the media.

“This is very important for us and we would like you to stay with us for many more years. Of course, the decision is his, what he must do is the best for him but also for Betis. I hope we can continue to enjoy him and for him to stay here. Dani can play in any team. He has many different talents, he is young and has many years of glory ahead of him. Any team would want him, but hopefully, we can enjoy him here for at least another year.”

The pleading from Joaquin has led Dani to become indecisive as to what to do in the future, as he told the media when returning to the Real Betis camp that he would give them an answer as to what his future would hold in the next two weeks.

“You will see me speak in two weeks,” he told reporters. Now, we will all have to wait and see what will happen.
