Real Madrid reportedly set to sign top transfer target who rejected Kylian Mbappe’s PSG push
Real Madrid are moving quickly in the transfer market to spend the money they would have allocated to Kylian Mbappe’s wages and bonuses in order to make upgrades to stay on top. While they are the champions of LaLiga and in the Champions League Final, Florentino Perez knows how important it is to remain proactive in the market.
Monaco defensive midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni is the name of the hour. Real Madrid have been interested in him for a while, even dating back to 2020. They ramped up their interest recently amidst his incredible season in Ligue 1, where he has broken out as legitimately one of the best midfielders in Europe. But there have been doubts about Real being able to afford his transfer fee and the total financial package for Mbappe – the doubts were even greater when Erling Haaland was also on the radar.
Aurelien Tchouameni reportedly told Liverpool he is joining Real Madrid
Now, there are no such issues. Real Madrid have the money to commit to Tchouameni. As RMC Sport reports, Real have already agreed to personal terms with Tchouameni, along with the other favorites to sign him Liverpool.
But the Liverpool Echo’s Paul Gorst reports that Aurelien Tchouameni has already told the Reds he will choose Real Madrid instead.
After the Mbappe saga, Madridistas know better than to get their hopes up until things are official, but this is positive news that indicates Real are close to signing their most important target.
Better yet, PSG were previously interested in Tchouameni. He had little interest in joining the Ligue 1 rivals, as Liverpool and Madrid have long been the favorites. But recently, Mbappe, using his new decision-making power, reportedly tried to push PSG to sign Tchouameni in a renewed effort. He also has Luis Campos by his side now, the former sporting director of Monaco.
Yet Tchouameni still has zero interest in joining PSG despite their financial power and maybe some added hype with the Mbappe renewal. His mind is only on the Champions League finalists, Liverpool and Real Madrid.

There is reason to believe that Los Blancos have the edge to sign Tchouameni, as he personally seems to favor the Merengues. But it will be a tough transfer battle, as Liverpool are formidable foes on the market, having recently shown their prowess this winter with the game-changing Luis Diaz signing. That said, if Real are serious, they should be able to spend the best midfielder available.
